How Do All-on-4 Implants Work?
Traditional dentures are supported by the gums and are held in place by suction. While they’ll let you perform everyday oral tasks like chewing, they don’t replace the tooth roots that stimulate the jawbone and keep it from breaking down. As the jawbone changes shape, your dentures will become ill-fitting and could slip at inopportune moments.
With All-on-4, we can secure your new teeth to the jawbone using four dental implants as substitute “roots.” Your teeth will be stronger and more secure as a result, and the prevention of bone loss will help you maintain a youthful facial structure.
Am I a Candidate for All-on-4 Implants?
The All-on-4 procedures are for cases where all of the teeth in the upper or lower jaw have been lost. (If there are a few teeth remaining, you can have it done after they’re extracted.) Dental implants could fail if there’s a gum infection, so candidates will need to be in excellent oral health. Also, the jawbone needs to be strong enough to support the implant posts. Luckily, All-on-4 involves placing the implants at an angle so that they can take advantage of the densest areas of the jaw; that means even patients who have already experienced a little bone loss might still be able to undergo the procedure.
What are the Benefits of All-on-4 Implants?
- Get New Teeth Quickly: In many cases, you’ll be able to get temporary dentures while you wait for your permanent ones; you won’t have to wait to enjoy a new smile.
- Beautiful Restoration: Most people won’t even be able to tell the difference between your replacement teeth and natural teeth.
- Better Stability and Strength: Your new teeth will stay in place and let you eat anything you want.
- Longevity: Patients who have good oral hygiene can look forward to their implants lasting for decades or even a lifetime.
All-on-4 VS Traditional Dental Implants
Much of the time, patients who get traditional dental implants also need to get bone grafts; this is because too much bone loss has already taken place. However, All-on-4 is designed to reduce the need for grafting by placing the implants in certain spots at strategic angles, allowing more patients to enjoy implant-retained dentures without the need for additional surgery. Also, traditional implants usually need to heal before they can support a restoration, but with the All-on-4 method, you’ll often receive temporary dentures on the day of surgery.
